Stepping On Falls Prevention
Stepping On is a falls prevention program for older adults who have fallen or fear falling. Stepping On is a community-based and interactive, evidence-based falls prevention program aimed at educating participants and building confidence to reduce or eliminate falls. The class is held one day per week over seven consecutive weeks, two hours each session. Classes are done in a small group setting and are very interactive. The program focuses on how strength and balance exercises, medication management, home safety, footwear, vision, diet, and mobility are important in preventing falls or reducing injury from falls. The program utilizes trained facilitators and guest speakers who are experts in their field such as a physical therapist who teaches the exercises, a pharmacist who discusses medication, a vision expert and a police community service officer. A $10 cash class fee will be collected at the first class.
